takut

today, while searching for journal articles for one of my assignments, i came across a phd theses online. I skimmed through it and suddenly, ai rasa TAKUT!!!!

ohmygawd!!!

kenapa takut? kenapa?

sebab, i rasa thesis yg ditulis oleh mamat ittew tersangatlah bombastik pengunaan wordsnya.

Takpe ke eh, if guna simple words sajer? Ishh..risaunyerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

PAstu, pasal pembahagian chapters. You see, I choose to divide my chapters according to its purpose. Contoh:

chapter 1: intro
chapter 2: malaysian society
chapter 3: theoretical framework
chapter 4. methods
chapter 5 findings
chapter 6 findings
chapter 7 conclusion

takpe ke ek? haiyaa...risaunyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sempoi sangat ke ek if divide chapter cenggitu? atau, yang penting adalah contribution kita to society? hmm...*garu kepala*

Anyway, I am planning to complete my chapter 1 esok tapi ada masalah kecik yang agak besar. Iaitu, masalah citation dimana ai telah cited an author, tapi kat my writing tu, ada year saje dan page number non ado. haiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa *ketuk kepala*

I hope to start my chapter 7 by Friday, inshaAllah.

Anyway, tak pe ke ek tulis simple2 jer? Ke I jer rasa simple sebab dah spuloh juta kali baca. TSK. How niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.......................

Lepastukan, tetiba rasa, cukup ke buku2 yang i baca. Of course it will never be cukup kan. Tapi pastu datang pula suara hati kata, if baca banyak2 pon, you cannot put everything in your disertation.

Kawan-kawan yang dalam boat yang sama *lambai-lambai to Oyis, Kayla, Eti, Iezma*, how are you people doing? Is this something usual to worry about? Is it? Is it?

sabb, i'm not there yet, so takleh nak komen panjang2. Tp takde kawan2 yg bidang sama yg boleh tolong proof-read?

Our area ni, lg simple bahasa, lg ok kot sbb complex2 sgt, nanti reviewer will use it against us pulak :(

second what eti says. my SV ckp pki ayat simple tp CLEAR. u write what u have done, and what you found, tu je, kata my SV. tp mungkin sbb kitaorg bidang tech mmg cenggitu? like eti has said, cuba tanya kot org lain in ur field can help?

btw, from the thesis i read byk jgk x ikut structure yg kita biasa buat. byk mcm sesuka hati je tulis tajuk apa utk satu2 chapter tu. tht one i x sampai lg part tu, sbb tgh wat experiment x sudah2...

et: tula...i pon biasa dah bahasa simple simple me.

oyis: yes. I am actually quite worried about my thesis structure. Tapi after talking to Dr Emma, I decided to re-structure my thesis so that it would clearly show my arguments and thesis. Sebab my current structure ni, takut nanti examiner rasa mcm they have to search for what I am trying to say. Hopefully the new structure will make it easier for them to understand what I want to say. Tapi tula, kena revamp. Hope I can habis by this month!!!

i'm all for simple language... i learned that yg penting apa kita nak cakap tu readers faham. coz if we try too hard to make the writing "sound" academic, takut pulak karang hilang maksud yg kita nak sampaikan. all throughout phd sometimes i have worried about my phd not being "phd-enough" (make sense tak ek?). but then from tgk how others presented kat progress reviews, i learned that ada je org yg present with philosophy macam2, but at the end, reviewers tanya jugak, "what are u trying to find out actually?". so i realized that yg penting kena clear. and that we can still make our argument using straightforward writing, yet still academic. actually i was in the same stage as u masa buat final writing aritu. i felt intimidated bila baca thesis by some Australians yg mmg writing nya mcm they are writers! but itu baru satu golongan. there is another golongan yg tulis simple straightforward english, but yet still nampak arguments and academic discussions nya. so bila dah jumpa several thesis yg mcm tu, lega sikit, and i just think of their kind of thesis to guide me to write mine. coz at the end of the day, there are different styles of writing, according to different people's writing abilities and minat kan... so when u find the one that u rasa u boleh jadikan as ur panduan, keep that as ur anchor.

as for chapters, kalau uni u takde requirement on how to arrange the chapters, then that's good la u can arrange ikut how u nak susun ur storyline. i did mine in 5 sections (Introduction, Chapter 1 (my first phase of projects), Chapter 2 (my second phase of project), Chapter 3 (final phase of project) and Conclusions). Because mine was by project and through design, my literature reviews, project reviews, methods, analysis, and findings from each phase are all integrated in each of the chapters. and each chapter ada discussion at the end. so i rasa mmg depends on how u nak construct ur story and how u want ur examiners to understand the flow. haaaa.. satu lagi amat penting! i was advised by my sv that contributions tu kena ckp straightforward. she gave me this ayat panduan utk contributions. i will post it on my blog, n feel free to copy it and share with other as well nnt. hmmm i really haven't written about my phd process for a while now. i might post up some of my experience to share nnt :)
